In simpler terms, health boils down to how well your body functions and handles challenges. It's not just physical, but also mental and social resilience. Think of it as your adaptability – how you bounce back from curveballs life throws. Everyone has varying strengths to face these challenges, making health a unique journey for each person.
We all know that the World Health Organisation (WHO) is one of the premier organisations which regulates, monitors, and controls the world health scenario. So how has anyone put forward the definition of health, let’s see.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), health is defined as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease”.
From the definition one thing is clear that when a person is not suffering from any diseases or disorders cannot be called healthy until or unless one is fit physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. And we all know fitness can be defined as the quality of being suitable to perform a particular task.
Physical Fitness
Physical fitness is defined as a general state of health and well-being or more specifically as the ability to perform aspects of sports or occupations. It is a set of attributes or characteristics seen in people and which relate to the ability to perform a given set of physical activities. Before the industrial revolution, fitness was the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without undue fatigue. However, with automation and changes in lifestyles physical fitness is now considered a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases caused due to the sedentary lifestyle, and to meet emergency situations.
Mental Fitness
Mental fitness is defined as the psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment. A person can be regarded as mentally fit when he enjoys life and create a balance between life activities and the ability to properly adapt to stress and adversity.
Social Fitness
Social fitness is defined as maintaining good and healthy relations with your surroundings. An individual having good relationships with family members, friends and neighbors is considered socially fit. These people care about you and will be there for you as they give value to strengthening relationships and fostering universal brotherhood.
